RWANDA : RWANDA CLOSE TO WINNING THE U-2O HANDBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Rwanda men’s team beat Burundi at the ongoing U-20 East and Central Africa handball Championships at Kasarani in Nairobi on Wednesday. Rwanda beat the Burundians 36-31 to occupy top spot after Kenya suffered a shock defeat to Tanzania going down 26-29. The result means Rwanda has a great chance of winning the tournament in the men’s category, their biggest challengers being the hosts Kenya who have to beat Uganda on Thursday the final day, by at least a margin of 13 goals.

In the women’s category, Kenya made an impressive display when they beat Uganda 24-19, to book their place into finals to a mouthwatering clash with Tanzania who had lost to Burundi 21-17 but nevertheless advance to the finals. It was a hard fought victory for the hosts who had a chance of killing the game early on, but captain Michelle Adhiambo missed two penalties to make the encounter even more adrenaline-fuelled. Uganda also had their share of misfortunes when Olivia Naibaiya was sent off after being suspended three times. The finals take place this Thursday at the same venue.
