Rain water collection may solve water shortage
Although Ngororero district has embarked on increasing clean water, collecting rain water can be one way of solving the crisis and conserving environment.
In different towns of Ngororero district, only a few people collect rain water while others channel it to the dug holes or rivers yet water becomes a problem in this area especially in dry season.
Roger Kabagema, in charge of Urban planning emphasizes that storing rain water could solve the problem of water shortage and reduce on soil erosion due to rain water.
Everybody is required to collect water from his or her house as housing law in Rwanda expects, Kabagema says.
Having enough rain in this district should be a good reason to make good use of rain water in agriculture, sanitation and other things.
However, some residents in Kabaya town of Ngororero claim that collecting rain water requires a lot beyond their capacity, and that’s why they channel it in pits and rivers.
If water is well collected it can be of good use in our daily lives because water here is not enough and buying it for agricultural purposes can be expensive, residents say.
