Gakenke season is set for the forth coming farming season. The district announced their overdue preparations at a recent district function meant to prepare for the cultivating season.
“Gakenke district has always tilled the land and prepared seeds to sow, even before the sowing season begins,” said Jean Claude Musabyimana, representative from Rwanda Agricultural Board.
Musabyimana requested farmers to proceed with the planting activity, even if the rains have not fallen on routine.
Odette Uwitonze, Vice Mayor in charge of economic development, Gekenke district highlighted that 90 per cent of the maize and 70 per cent of the beans to be cultivated were already planted.
Uwitonze called upon farmers to make good use of the terraces made for them by the ministry of Agriculture.
