Rwanda Agricultural Board {RAB} has urged Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru wheat growers to increase on productivity.RAB emphasizes higher yields can be achieved if advanced methods of farming are applied.
“If only you could grow surplus wheat to quench the market countrywide and maybe export as well,” advised Butare Louis, the chairperson of RAB in the Southern Province of Rwanda.
The RAB official highlighted that the demand for wheat overshadows the supply.
Farmers were called upon to list hindrances in their farming so that government could intervene in order to aid the increase of wheat productivity.
Meanwhile, farmers confessed that wheat has been a useful crop in their life.
“We can’t go without food neither do we lack money for solving essential problems yet the only farming we have known our entire life rotates around wheat,” said Therese Mukamurenzi, farmer from Nyamigano cell.
In Rwanda, wheat farming is successful in only two districts namely; Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru, save for a few more upcoming districts.
