Poor residents from different sectors of Burera district have been given 50 cows in GirinkaMunyarwanda program.
The beneficiaries are mostly old men and women from Butaro, Kivuye, Gatebe, Bungwe, Kinyababa, Kagogo and Rwerere sectors.
“This cow will give milk to me, my children and grand children. As a farmer, productivity will increase withmanure from this cow,” says 81 year old Telesphore Nzamwita, Girinka beneficiary.
Florence Uwambajemariya, vice mayor in charge of social affairs asserts that the program was initiated by the president of the republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame in order to improve the lives of poor Rwandans.
“It’s in line with this that Burera district gives cows to different poor residents so as to reduce poverty, socially develop and fight malnutrition”, Uwambajemariya discloses.
Uwambajemariya notes that every resident that is given a cow in this program must give a cow to a neighbor so that Girinka program benefits all Rwandese.
Over 1000 cows are expected to be given to residents in Burera district.
