The people of Nyagatare district are presenting business proposals under ‘Hanga Umurimo’ program to a team of selected specialists who will choose ones that qualify to be supported by the ministry of trade and industry.
Many of the business proposals which were presented concerned processing agricultural and animal products into processed products which are the main sources of income in Nyagatare district even though currently the farming being practiced is not done in modern ways.
The present production does not seem to be of enough yields as required by the officials to satisfy domestic home consumption and remain with the surplus for sale at the markets.
It was realized that people of Nyagatare had better business ideas compared to their level of education. An example is a man called Hitayezu who is shoe mender in Nyagatare town had a business proposal of processing animal products starting from the horns, hide and the bones.
Hitayezu had carried samples of what he had already done out of animal products like decorative items and ear rings made out of bones and horns and explained how he is ready to make use of them to the extent of expecting profits worth Rwf100mill out of his project within a period of five years once he is supported by the government to start up his project.
“You can very well see my products look of good quality and they can easily access market. Just give me the support am ready to work”, Hitayezu remarked.
Another extraordinary business proposal was of processing maize in to good flour that can last for long and can be used for baking different types of breads and can also be used for feeding on the animals.
Many brilliant business proposals that will provide lasting solutions to people’s problems were presented. Projects like processing cheap and long lasting roofing tiles and the project of mobile biogas tanks that will solve the problem of shortage of charcoal and help reduce air pollution with its other challenges that come with it.
