In a bid to boost the activities of sector saving and credit schemes (Umurenge Saccos), the RwandaCooperative Agency (RCA) will supply at least 416 computers to each scheme.
The computer supply project was launched on March 2 by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Francois Kanimba.
Twenty (20) Umurenge Saccos located in Kigali city, received the first batch of the computers and accessories.
Minister Kanimba said that the project is aimed at implementing the government’s strategy of empowering Sacco’s to contribute to the community access to finance institution and thus the fight against poverty.
“The work of the schemes will be made easier, and accountable to the clients. This will increase their output in the long run,” Kanimba said.
The beneficiaries said that the project was timely and will cut on the time and costs spent in trying to access internet at the cyber café, which in most cases slows down their output and delays in customercare. They also asked for training and skills on various computer and accounting programs.
The RCA Director General, Damien Mugabo, said that the project will be extended to all the Sacco’s countrywide and subsequently training the beneficiaries.
