Rwanda Innocent Musabyimana Agricultural officer 239x300 Rwanda : Agricultural ministry acknowledges good harvest 2012
Innocent Musabyimana, Agricultural officer
One of the Officers in the ministry of agriculture Innocent Musabyimana has said on a Radio interview that Rwandan agricultural harvest for the first season of 2012 was generally pleasant.
He said the harvest of 2012 was good enough to satisfy Rwandans and remain with some to be put on the markets. The most harvested crops include beans, cassava, maize, Irish potatoes and millet.
Musabyimana Innocent says the harvesting season of 2012 is among the best harvesting seasons Rwandans have ever had. He attributed the good harvest to the cooperation between leaders at all levels and the determined farmers all over the country.
He was impressed with how the maize harvest was greatly improved whereby in 2008 they harvested maize on the 28000 hectares of land but they harvested on 230,000 hectares of landin 2012 national wide. The improvement was not only made in maize farming but also in other various crops like Irish potatoes, millet and beans.
Musabyimana continued to reveal that however much the harvesting season of 2012A was successful; the still some challenges were experienced. Challenges like heavy rains and farmerswho don’t take hid of professional advice like how to apply fertilizers, planting in lines, planting in the right time and many others. All these led them to miss the expected harvest.
He requested farmers to be ready for the next planting season of 2012 B and asked them to always follow the advice from the ministry officials since they are expecting change in the rain patterns.
