In recent days, there have been reports of bitter conflicts between the National University of Rwanda volleyball club and Lycée de Nyanza volleyball club, the two giant clubs fighting over the custody of key players whom they both claim belong to their respective clubs. Apparently the off pitch saga has more than affected NUR volleyball club in the most obvious way. This weekend it was reflected through their poor performance in the National Volleyball League when they were properly beaten by both APR and Lycée de Nyanza 3 sets to 0 and 3 sets to 2 sets respectively.
The result, one of the worst NUR has ever had, was seen by many as a true reflection of what the problems the club has been having. At the root of contention, is Olivier Ntagengwa, who used to play for NUR only to be signed by Lycée de Nyanza without the latter, following the usual administrable procedures. It is also reported that Olivier was paid a whooping 1.5 m Rfw to sign for Lycée, in a transfer that his former club was not aware of.
Last weekend’s results leave APR temporarily in 1st place, followed by Lycée de Nyanza in second place while NUR are in third place in the table.
