Leandre Karekezi, Gisagara district mayor says that if the environment is destroyed then people will not live because it’s where human beings get necessities for living.
“Man needs land to cultivate food, without trees there is no enough clean oxygen to breath and trees prevent soil erosion when it rains heavily”, he remarked
In order to encourage residents to conserve the environment, they are reminded about the importance of land that gives them food, trees that work as timber and firewood, and forests that help in rain formation.
This is the reason behind the districts dedication to planting trees on hills, digging water passages and planting trees on the road sides and mixing them with crops.
This program of tree planting was funded by RSSP project; whereas it started in Gikonko sector planting over 48.000 trees which were mixed with crops and the program is going on because trees have to be planted on 179 hectares of land and 148 kilometers along the road in this district.
Gisagara district administration reminds residents that trees are not only planted for show but should be protected as well.
