Youth in “peace clubs” testify that Umuseke peace teachings have encouraged them to strive for peace.
Youth confirm that their life has changed because of the teachings from Umuseke (Rwandan organization that aims at promoting peace among youth).
Some of the youth say that they lived in hatred before but now they are the ones preaching unity and reconciliation to their fellow youth.
Theogene Hakorimana, one of ‘Inshuti z’Amahoro’ club members from ES Save confesses: “I can never leave my club, it has become a bridge we cross on from hatred to reconciliation, and from conflicts to harmony.”
Celestin Ngendahayo, a club member adds: “I used to hate but now I feel close to whoever I see and that we can forgive each other or come to terms in case of a misunderstanding.”
Jaqueline Uwimana, who founded “Umuseke” narrates that she got an idea after 1994 Tutsi genocide but Umuseke started in the year 2000 with an aim of building peace in youth.
On why she chose to work with youth, Uwimana said that a tree is bent when it’s young.
“Development cannot be achieved without peace, so peace can be a foundation for lasting development,” explains Uwimana.
Umuseke now works with over 5000 children in different countries like Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
