Rwanda | Nyamasheke: Residents urged to pay for health insurance

Rwanda | Nyamasheke ResidentsWhile residents were allowed to pay medical insurance (mutuelle de santé) in installments, it has become a problem forcing the concerned parties to change the plan.
Because payments have been delayed, it was agreed that starting with 2012-2013 year residents will be paying the whole amount at once.
This was resolved in the meeting that gathered Health official in Nyamasheke, one in charge of medical insurance in this area, administrative committee of mutuelle de santé (Musa), sector leaders in charge of social affairs, heads of health centres, treasurers and Presidents of musa.
One of the decisions taken was never to allow residents to pay in installments in 2012-2013 year because so that the problem of delayed payments is solved, says Agatha Nyirahirwa; Head of MUSA in Nyamasheke district.
Nyirahirwa urged residents to seriously take Musa like other medical insurances for example RAMA where one cannot go to the hospital knowing she or he did not pay the fee.
“When we treat people that have not paid, Musa will suffer loss and fail to pay health centres or hospitals that treated them,” adds Nyirahirwa
While preparing to start receiving 2012-2013 medical insurance contributions, people who had paid half and want to complete the payments are asked to pay at Musa instead of associations.
According to the March reports, 95 percent of the residents have contributed for medical insurance but only 68 percent have paid the full amount.
