Three genocide survivor families of Gishumbi sector in Gisagara district have received cows given to them for fighting poverty.
The event that was held on April 28th 2012 in Gishubi sector of Gisagara district was organized by National Electoral Commission (NEC).
The occasion was attended by Donatille Uwingabiye, vice mayor for social affairs, IBUKA president in Gisagara district, Gishubi sector executive secretary and coordinator for National Electoral Commission in Gisagara and Huye districts.
In his speech, IBUKA president Emmanuel Uwiringiyimana thanked National Election Commission, for remembering to give cows to the genocide survivors after the genocide.
Uwiringiyimana assured that the cows will be looked after well since the beneficiaries had cows before the tragedy genocide that took them as well.
NEC coordinator revealed that elections are not organized through culture or tradition but also through teaching people to live together in harmony.
Emphasizing on the point of unity, he added that it was through unity and reconciliation that volunteers in Gisagara contributed and bought three cows, so that they set an example for other Rwandese in helping vulnerable genocide survivors.
Gisagara Vice mayor for social affairs, Donatille Uwingabiye who was the main speaker of the occasion thanked the sponsors and asked the beneficiaries to make good use of the cows, so that they give cows to their neighbours.
