Rwanda | Kenya Table Tennis Team Jets Off to Doha for Olympic Qualifiers


The Kenya Table Tennis team to the Final World Olympic qualifiers leaves for Doha, Qatar Wednesday,May 10.
Kenya will be sending a team of four-Derrick Inyanje from Kisumu, Anthony Mathenge of Nairobi(Captain), Sejal Chandarana also from Nairobi and 19-year-old Strathmore University student Gloria Sigowo.
The players have been training at Makini School which is the venue recently identified by the Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) as a talent centre and academy.
They  had an opportunity to work  with from Pakistani ITTF Coach Arif Khan who is in Kenya for a two-month stint to assist KTTA with the technical aspect of the game.
According to Team Manager Samson Ateka, the team transits through Dubai and onward to Doha where the qualifiers will take place.
“Arif is really enthusiastic with the standards the players have displayed at Makini so far,” remarked Ateka.
The players in the Kenya team were selected in Mombasa at the Brahma Samaj Hall a fortnight ago when KTTA concluded its year-long points earning system of ranking players.
Accompanying the team is NOCK Treasurer Fridah Shiroya and Silas Ngundo of the Department of sports.
So far only one Boxer and two swimmers have qualified to join the Athletics team in London for the Olympics which begins on July 27- August 12.
