Farmers in Bugesera district especially those that cultivate in Akagera and Akanyaru swamps are worried about the flooding that is taking over their plantations.
In the morning of the 7th.May.2012, Odette Uwamariya the governor in the eastern province of Rwanda came to check on these farmers and asked them to be careful so that some of them are not killed in this flooding like what happened last year.
Governor Odette Uwamariya asked all residents to protect their children not to go to these swamps going to fish and farmers to be more careful of these swamps which are filling up and not only because of the rain that falls in Bugesera district but because of the rain that falls in other district that send water into Akagera and Akanyaru rivers.
Venant Nsengimana a resident who farms rice in Kanyonyomba swamp said that some of their rice plantations are filled up with water and they are not waiting for the produce from them.
Governor Odette Uwamariya with other different leaders that were with her visited the Akagera, Akanyaru, Kanyonyomba and Kamatana swamps.
