RwandaNational Police is hosting a 3 days cyber-crime workshop following a number of cyber-crimes that have shown up in the East African region in past few months back.
Rwanda -a country working hard to become the region’s ICT hub has been investing highly in the IT industry and of course cyber security concerns must come along.
Director of Interpol Rwanda’s Bureau, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Ismael Baguma cited an example where recently abusiness man had his bank account hacked and money stolen as he tried to make an e-payment purchase in China.
“Criminals exploit speed, convenience and anonymity that modern technologies offer in order to commit a diverse range of crimes.” Added Baguma
Deputy Inspector General of Police Stanley Nsabimana thanked Interpol for choosing Rwanda as the workshop’s host.
He also said that “The workshop will facilitate discussions and strategies of investigating cyber-crime and its related offences.”
In this workshop, participants are expected to learn practical skills on how to investigate, identify and prevent cyber-crimes.
This workshop which began on 16th April 2012 has 18 participants from Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya and South Sudan and will be adjourn on 18th April 2012.
