NUR, S. African Universities to strengthen partnerships

South Africa’s High Commissioner to Rwanda, H.E. George Nkosinati Twala wants relationship between the National University of Rwanda (NUR) and South Africa universities to be extended to the faculty level.
The High Commissioner expressed this wish during a visit to the National University of Rwanda (NUR) recently.
According to the Acting Rector of NUR, Prof. Manasse Mbonye, NUR and some South Africa universities are already in partnership. He mentions that there are some NUR lecturers who went to South Africa for upper studies thanks to the partnership with NUR.
Prof. Mbonye however, says that there is need of improving the collaboration in areas of research, students exchange and institutional capacity.
South Africa’s High Commissioner to Rwanda says that South Africa is committed to assist in the recreation of intelligentia in Rwanda after the tragic period of the Genocide perpetrated against Tutsi in 1994.
He pointed out that it is in this regard that he went to NUR for the exchange about partnership between NUR and South Africa universities. High Commissioner Twala suggested an suggested an establishment of collaboration at faculty level between NUR and South Africa universities.

On August 15th, 2010, NUR and South Africa Embassy to Rwanda signed a 3 year agreement of cooperation in the field of Higher Education and training.
