More army chiefs undergo training

The Minister of Defense, General James Kabarebe, officially opened on July 22, 2013, the second training session of army chiefs at Nyakinama military academy.

The training will see at least 48 army top brass officers from Rwanda and other east African countries undertake a one year advance military training courses at the institution based in Musanze district, Northern Province of Rwanda.

Gen. Kabarebe said that the training is vital for the armed forces in the region and it does strengthen the community collaboration efforts to maintain security and have highly qualified personnel.

He encouraged the students to take advantage of the studies, be vigilant and highly disciplined so as to make good use of the courses in their respective assignments in future.

In June, 2013, Kagame presided over the first graduation ceremony of 45 RDF officers who completed a 46 weeks for senior staff course. The officers (on grade of Major, Colonel and Lieutenant Colonels) underwent courses on military warfare, combat (land, air and marine) and peacekeeping among others.

During the first graduation, Lt. Col Gatate Karuranga, Academy Coordinator, said that the academy was aiming at become an international center for military education and this is an opportunity for Rwandans to create their own package of military services which can be a learning experience for other countries especially in peacekeeping.

The Military academy was officially opened last year 2012, by President Paul Kagame who also called on African nations to be self reliant and seek solutions within themselves- Kagame said at the opening of the military academy last year.
