Gahini hospital staff open fund to support poor patients

Medical and non medical staff of Gahini Hospital have agreed to voluntarily contribute part of their salaries to occasionally support needy patients.


This was revealed by the hospital management during a meeting with the Minister of State in Charge of Public Health and Primary Health Care Dr. Anita Asiimwe on Wednesday.


According to Dr. Alphonse Muvunyi the director, Gahini Hospital the “Poor Patients Fund” project will be supporting patients especially those who cannot afford food and other basics during their stay at the hospital.


“This has reduced the burden, the hospital used to cater for such patients,” said Muvunyi adding that the staff understands the idea and each staff willingly contributes to the fund.


With 165 employees each contributing Rwf2000 they are able to pool a total of Rwf330, 000 per month.


Dr. Asiimwe commended the initiative and applauded the hospital management for provision of quality health care services and maintaining good hygiene standards within the hospital.


The hospital management presented to the minister its plans, current challenges and proposed solutions.
