Parents in Ruhango district admit shamefully to the fact that they own nutritious foods in their homes but their children lack them due to their ignorance.
They are calling upon other parents not to let ignorance of what is best for their children affect them but to learn and give the best to their families.
The parents in Ruhango district said this during the closure of the 5 days training on nutrition and preparing well balanced diet meals on the 19th.July 2013. The training was prepared by USAID Gimbuka project that operates in 5 sectors in Ruhango district was attended by 20 women.
In this training, trainees were taught how to use the food at their disposal to make nutritious meals. This training was of paramount importance with women realizing that eating well and nutritiously does not require being rich.
Marie Josee Mukasine a resident of Byimana sector who attended this training says “I used to feed my child the bare cassava because it is what I had. Now I know, if I can put in some vegetables as well as small fish, my child would eat a well balanced diet without requiring a lot of money to feed him.”
Olive Mukadusenge a resident of Ruhango sector says that after learning about nutrition to be in common foods, she is going to sensitize her fellow women how to feed well their families without stretching what they own.
Leopard Ngoga the representative of USAID Gimbuka project says the program of bringing together and teaching mothers things like nutrition changes the welfare of their families and improves their health.
