New Taskforce to scrap unnecessary requirements for gov’t regulated services

New Taskforce to scrap unnecessary

Cabinet recently appointed a Taskforce with a three-month mandate to review in detail all requirements for government regulated services and determine their necessity.

Speaking at the launch of the Efficiency for Citizen’s campaign, the Minister of Trade and Industry Francois Kanimba said that the objective of the exercise is to remove unnecessary requirements in government services and reinforce Rwanda’s objective to serve its citizens in the most effective and efficient manner.”

The Efficiency for Citizens Taskforce is composed of five Government and two Private Institutions.

These include the Rwanda Development Board, the Rwanda Governance Board, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Rwanda Natural Resources Authority, Ministry of Local Government, the Private Sector Federation and a representative of the Private sector.

According to RDB’s Acting Chief Operating Officer Tony Nsanganira, The public and visitors to Rwanda are encouraged to give views about which requirements they find unnecessary.

“We are using various channels such as radio, television, email, social media and print media to get as much feedback from the public as possible.”

He said that more communication channels such as the Town Hall meetings locally known as Kubaza Bitera Kumenya and Umuganda will be used to create awareness about the campaign and to get feedback from the public about which unnecessary requirements should be eliminated.

Recommendations that will be made on redundant requirements are expected to be abolished at the end of the three months period in a report that will be submitted to cabinet.

Nsanganira says that this systematic and involving approach is to ensure straight forward regulatory requirements in all sectors and to streamline them in a more consolidated and efficient driven approach.
