Reborn Kyoto, a Japanese nonprofit organization that nurtures the economic independence of young and old women in developing plans to establish a high level cloth fabrication training in Rwanda
The three year project that started in July 2013 and targets economically disadvantaged youth in Kigali (aged 16-35), especially women selected from the districts of Gasabo, Kicukiro and Nyarugenge. The Training will be based at Gaculiro Vocational Training Center
According to Yasuko Yamahira the Chief Executive Officer of Reborn Kyoto, the first two years will be allocated to the training of high standard Japanese clothes (Kimonos) and the development of ‘made in Rwanda products’
According to Jerome Gasana the Director General of WDA commended the plan by Reborn Kyoto to incorporate Training of Trainers activities and he pledged full support in strengthening to have a wider impact to other parts of the country.
Yamahira says that the third year will involve the establishment of a production unit to enable trainees gain income by using skills acquired and there will also be a process of teaching trainees how to market their products.
Reborn Kyoto was created to assist developing countries through putting up cottage industries for disadvantaged women and children.
Sewing is a primary skill they pass on to trainees for the fabrication of clothes, first by making modern garments using the delicate silk material of the kimono.
This support comes from the Japanese Government through JICA through the partnership with the Ministry of Gender and Family promotion in Rwanda, the Ministry of local Government and the Ministry of Education.
