With the help of PSI Rwanda, prostitutes of Huye district received a one week training aimed at equipping the sex workers with business ideas rather than selling themselves.
Finishing the training on 27th April 2012, most of the attendees were happy of what they were taught.
PSI Representative Marie Chantal Uwingabire said that on top of being taught how to create jobs rather than being prostitutes, the attendees were taught a lot about HIV prevention and birth control.
“Those who are attended this training are to act as our advocates to their fellow colleagues who did not attend.” Added Uwingabire
Attendees were prostitutes residing in Huye town, Tumba, Mbazi, Simbi, Maraba and Mukura sectors.
One of the attendees who didn’t reveal names said that “I am thankful of this training’s lessons, though I have trouble implementing what I was taught. I have a 3 year old son, yet I have no other alternate source of income, which leaves me with no time to pursue there to be offered business creation studies.”
According to PSI, the trained group will be providing reports of their progress on sensitizing their fellows at the same time being given support to help them achieve their business idea
