Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) has announced the plans to construct a high tech food laboratory in a bid to improve on the quality of food products.

This was revealed by the Director General of RBS, Dr. Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe, while addressing the press on new plans to increase quality of food products consumed.
“By next year, Rwanda will have a new food laboratory which will cost over 2.1 m USD with high tech equipments to seal the gap missing in food industry” Dr. Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe, Director General of RBS says.
He added that some of the Rwandan food products exported have been denied on the international market because of poor quality.
The construction of food laboratory is funded by India through East African Trade Mark. This was discussed in the Indian-African heads of state summit
India streamlined the need to support African countries to improve food quality; the five countries preselected were Chad, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe and Congo Brazzaville.
But Rwanda was chosen because of its strong policies through RBS to promote food industry.
RBS also vowed to recruit over 60 personnel and 45 inspectors as one way to increase RBS capacity to reach out all parts of the country.
