300 disabled persons in Kimihurura, Gasabo District are the grateful beneficiaries of an aid package from an American charity Deseret International.
The aid package includes wheel-chairs worth one million Rwandan Francs, crutches and eye-glasses among other items.
It is the first donation of its type but the charity, which usually specializes in empowering physicians and medical practitioners to make a difference in their home communities.
The Deseret International representative at the hand-over ceremony, Brad Wilkes, clarified that while it’s a first for the organization, many more such donations are in the pipeline.
On her part, the Executive Secretary of Kimihurura sector Mapambano Nyiridandi expressed her contentment with this initiative, and called upon other charitable organizations and NGOs alike to take into account the plight of the disabled, and continue helping them feel like a part of the Rwandan society as they rightfully are.
