The State Minister of Education Dr. Mathias Harebamungu has called upon educators to impart the culture of reading into students if the quality of education is going to improve.
He made the call on Wednesday at a ceremony to handover 22, 000 books at Ecole Scolaire de Kicukiro.
“Reading exposes students to various knowledge which helps them to improve their literacy levels,” said Harebamungu.
Harebamungu urged the students to take care of the books and utilise them to the maximum in order to profit from them.
He explained that the books include those from friends of Rwanda around the world and added that they are focusing on the 12-YBE where over 1.5 million books are expected to be distributed in schools.
Dr Joyce Musabe, the official from Rwanda Education Board (REB) also reiterated the need to utilise the chance of getting the books and get the best out of it. She also urged the teachers to play the role of inspiring the students to read.

The distributed books include leisure books and curriculum books that and range from kindergarten to 12-YBE.
Statistics show that about 350 schools have received these books so far and that another consignment of about 500 books is awaited in the countr
