The cooperative for tea growers in Cyohoha swamp-Rukeri ASSOPTHE is planning on expanding the area where they grow tea in 9 sectors that they work in from 930 hectares to 1030 hectares in 3 years to come.
This was said by Claver Rubumbira, the president of ASSOPTHE who also said that this will be done in a way of promoting the production of tea as they have a great market they have to satisfy with Rwanda tea.
“before 2014, we want to have added at least 100 hectares on the area we farm and we will do this by sensitizing people about the advantages of tea and make them join our cooperative.” He explained.
Rubumbira said that this program has already started as they are having seedlings with the help of Fair Trade International which works in Rulindo district of which they are preparing for October when the first tea in this program will be planted.
