New RDB CEO Ambassador Valentine Sendanyoye Rugwabiza
The former Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ambassador Valentine Sendanyoye Rugwabiza has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer for Rwanda Development Board (RDB).
Rugwabiza will also maintain her position as cabinet member. She replaces Claire Akamanzi, who has been at the realm of the institution since 2010 as acting CEO of RDB.
Akamanzi came replacing John Gara who was transferred to a new body, the National Legal Reform Commission as its president.
RDB is the country’s arm for promoting investment and development. It is merger of several government agencies that were formally run by Rwanda Investment and Export Promotion Agency (RIEPA) and Rwandan Office for Tourism and National Parks (ORTPN).
The new CEO was appointed by a cabinet meeting that convened in Village Urugwiro on October 9 and was chaired by President Paul Kagame. Cabinet also appointed Clare Akamanzi, as the acting Chief Operations Officer (COO) for RDB.
Other changes in the agency also saw Diane Sayinzoga appointed as Trade Development Division Manager.
Rugwabiza is expected to bring on board, her political and business skills that she has picked along the way as a diplomat and Director at the World Trade Organisation. Her predecessor, Akamanzi has been able to earn Rwanda the credit of being one of the top countries in doing business in Africa and the region.
Both women (Rugwabiza and Akamanzi) were this year named by ‘Jeune Afrique magazine’ among the 25 most influential women in business on the African continent.
