Parents being taught how to prepare balanced meals
The Western district of Nyabihu has benefitted from 1000 days of Health, a government campign aimed at minimizing malnutrition among infants below the age of five.
In line with the program, district authorities have been giving a free cup of milk to malnourished children on a daily basis. About 13, 000 liters of milk are distributed everyday in Nyabihu. The supplied milk is said to have had a positive impact on malnourished kids already.
“The milk has improved children with problems like stunted growth, Kwashiorkor and other nutrition based diseases,” says Pierre Dusenge, a Health Official in the district.
Dusenge says that if the district sensitisation about farming vegetables and fruits is successful, malnutrition will be history in Nyabihu.
During the nationwide campaigns, parents are taught how to prepare balanced meals, special meals for children, as well as monitor their children’s growth.
