Ngoma: poor woman gets new home through community work

The local community work is taken as a serious act rendered to the development of the country to some and to others, it is just done out of obligation, but for Alivera Mukasonga, community work is more so than an act of kindness that gave her a home.

Alivera Mukasonga is a resident of Murindwa village in Birenga cell in Kazo sector in Ngoma district. Thanks to the local community work and the kindness of the local residents, she now has a home. She had lived many of her days in a church where she had sought a refuge due to lack of a home.

Through the community work, a strong and big house considered as a safe haven for Alivera Mukasonga was constructed. For Mukasonga who was living in ADEPR Church of Birenga after the falling of her home, there is no more kindness as what is offered to local vulnerable people through community work.

Alivera Mukasonga is a survivor of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis. His whole family perished during this genocide that claimed more than 1 Million Rwandans in 100 days only.

According to the daughter-in-law of Alivera Mukasonga the only relative she has, “after our house collapsed, we had no place to go and we sought help from the ADEPR Church which gave us refuge for more than 3 months. We are grateful of the local people and the sector’s administration that helped us to get a home through community work.”

Josue Buhiga the executive secretary of Kazo sector says “after we found out the issue of this old woman whose house collapsed and is living in the church, we did the only thing we could, built her a home through community work. We are also working on her regaining the survival allowances she had lost to give the stability and hope to keep living.”

This old woman’s house was put among the sectors achievements along the schools and the hospital that were constructed in the 2012/2013 financial year.
