More 3,000 youth to enroll for TVET

An initiative is underway at Global Communities (formerly CHF International), to enroll 3,000 youths for technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET).

The youth will be facilitated with tuition fees, stipend and placement in different Vocational Training Centres across the 18 districts where Global Communities operates.

This is part of a larger TVET program that is being funded by USAID through a five year Higa Ubeho (Be Determined and Live) program that seeks to strength the resilience of vulnerable groups.

So far the ongoing program has supported over 2500 have already graduated and placed for industrial training. Many of them are now employed in different organisations as permanent workers.

Through program to support vocational training, Global Communities recently partnered with the Workforce Development Authority (WDA) to promote TVET awareness across Rwanda. The three –month media campaign targets the youth and community in order to understand the benefits of gaining employable skills.

“It is important that we fight against the negative perceptions towards TVET if the youth are to realize its potential in gaining vocational skills,” observed Mugarura Victor, the Communications and Outreach Manager for Global Communities Rwanda.

R, Electing on the same, Emmanuel Nuwamanya, the Public Relations Officer for WDA, said that the target is to reach as many Rwandan youths with the same message.

The TVET awareness campaign is to include media messages, interpersonal communication, alongside a symposium for experts in vocational training. A regional TVET Expo is also slated for late this

As part of its sponsorship program, Global Communities wants to encourage all categories of youth to realize the benefits of having employable vocational skills in line with the governments priorities outlined in the second Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS 2)
