The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Land Forces and a contingent of 85 Rwandan air force personnel serving under United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) held a Medal parade award Ceremony in Juba, the Capital of South Sudan on 23 August 2013.
Mr Raisedon Zenenga, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Political Affairs in UNMISS, South Sudan presented and decorated Medals to RDF Peacekeepers for having served professionally the UNMISS in the period of eight months.
In his remarks, he thanked the Government of Rwanda for contributing troops to UNMISS and appreciated a commendable job the Rwandan Peacekeepers have been doing for the past eight months in the mission.
He commended the Peacekeepers for their professionalism, commitment, discipline, maintaining good relations with the People of South Sudan and with the entire UNMISS Staff.
He particularly commended the RDF Peacekeepers for their valuable contribution to restore peace and security in Jonglei State, the duty which was almost impossible before.
The colourful ceremony was presided over by Senior UNMISS officials, Military and Police Components and also members of Rwandan Community living in South Sudan.
The Rwanda Defence Force begun to deploy in South Sudan as part of a newly created UN-backed stabilisation mission (UNMISS) in April 2012.
