Youth have been called to be role models in the continued fight against corruption in Rwanda. The call was made recently at workshop organized by Transparency Rwanda, a civil society watchdog for the youth representatives from universities.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the Executive Secretary of Transparency Rwanda Appolinaire Mupiganyi said that the recent ranking of Rwanda on the corruption index was impressive, but said that the youth had a role to play so that things continue getting better.
Rwanda, in a recent Transparency international ranking ranked fourth in Africa and was the best in East Africa.
Transparency Rwanda has now turned to the youth in the fight against corruption through the Anti-corruption clubs in schools.
The clubs are now being taught how to tackle this problem from all frontiers including their neighborhoods.
“Youth are the leaders of tomorrow, so their involvement at an early stage is a big boost to the noble cause of fighting corruption in our society,” said Mupiganyi.
According to Samson Muvunyi, the chairman of the SFB Anti-Corruption club, said that they are planning to conduct sensitization sessions among the they youth so that they can grow knowing that corruption is a taboo.
