When the idea of the Agaciro Development Fund was birthed, even the initiators couldn’t have imagined this level of success.
Nyagatare District residents and staff on Wednesday held a fund-raising event for the Agaciro Development Fund, raising an astounding Rwf 881,714,620.
During a ceremony filled to capacity to mark the launch of the AgDF, residents and officials alike lined up to announce their personal contribution to the fund, with some giving upwards of a million Rwandan Francs, others, personal property such as cattle.
Speaking at the grounds of the Umutara Polytechnic University where the festivities were held to accommodate the crowd, Eastern Province Governor Uwamariya Odette seized the opportunity to stress that contributions to the fund are strictly voluntary and no one should be forced or coerced to donate against their will.
Colossal amounts of money have been raised for the Agaciro Development Fund from District Offices, with Nyagatare District – despite raising such a large amount – still lagging behind Musanze District which donated over Rwf 1.5 Billion, and Huye District which mustered Rwf 1.2 Billion.
