Artists urged to compose songs that enrich Rwandan culture

The minister for sports and culture Protaise Mitali has advised local artists to compose songs enriching the Rwandan culture.

The minister stressed out the information during Jules Sentores album launch at Petite stadium on Sunday November 3.

“Stop mimicking Western musicians, sing with the aim to strengthen the Rwandan culture and convey messages that are developmental to our culture,” urged the Minister.

He reminded artists that composing songs with a cultural message would boost their market while people relate to the music.

He urged them not to mimic Western artists’ dress cord, language or the beats.

The Minister did not say local artists should refrain from foreign music but that they need to balance the two for both the international market and the local one

According to Minister Mitali; Rwandans have not ignored their culture but artists have not exploited and made good use of their culture when it comes to composing.
