Goethe movie screening to feature ‘Almanya’

A scene in the movie

A touching yet entertaining story about identity, solidarity and the struggle for right decisions, Almanya is set to screen at Goethe Institute’s new offices in Kiyovu, as part of the institute’s regular screenings on Tuesdays.

Set in Germany the film revolves around Huseyin, a Turkish man and a guest worker, who came to Germany with his whole family. As the years go by and grandchildren are born, Huseyini finally gets a German passport.

But instead of celebrating the new identity, he decides to buy a house in Anatolia. Against the wishes of his relatives, he takes the whole family on a trip back to their roots. On their way, everybody has to face his own fears, insecurities and conflicts.

The film premiered at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival in the section competition and won the Deutscher Filmpreis 2011 in the categories Best Script and Best Film. It will be shown on Tuesday November 5, 2013. Entrance is free.
