Nyabihu: District introduces water tanks in the fight against soil erosion

District introduces water tanks in the fight against soil erosion

Water tanks will help residents get free water to use and check soil erosin at the same time

FINABANK has given out water tanks to residents of Nyabihu District, the tanks will help collecting rain water as a way of fighting soil erosion.

The Bank partnered with the Ministry of natural resources, AQUASAN and the District administration

This comes after rain water from the residents’ houses continues to cause soil erosion in Nyabihu District since it is not collected and stored but instead, it is left to waste.

Uncollected rain water washes away fertile soil layers and ruins infrastructures like houses and roads.

Benjamin Karambizi, in charge of environment protection in Nyabihu District explains that water tanks will enable residents collect enough water for domestic use and fight erosion in the process

3, 500 litres and 5, 000 litres water tanks have been availed so that residents choose what they want depending on the capacity to pay the loan.

According to Benjamin, the credit has to be paid every month and be completed in one year period.

Residents commend FINABANK saying the payment process is easier for them and they will strive to make good use of the water tanks.

To make the process easy, FINA BANK buys the water tanks from AQUASA (one of the leading, independent plumbing and heating companies) and then residents pay FINABANK in instalments.

Erosion is common in Nyabihu District because most parts of the District are hilly.
