Rwandair purchases new aircrafts
The National Carrier-Rwandair has purchased a new Boeing 737-700 Next Generation (NG) model that will boost its services to clients traveling long distance areas such as Europe and the Middle East.
The new German made plane touched ground in Kigali on 17/04/2013 and has capacity to handle at least 120 passengers. The plane will be a replacement for the light flight Boeing 737-500 which has been used by the carrier.
The Boeing 737-700 has 12 business class seats and 108 seats in the economy class and has 28 more seats compared to the existing 737-500.
Rwandair boss, John Mirenge says that the plane, though light, will be able to boost the flight services since it can make long distances without having to disembark at any airport.
Mirenge also said that the carrier will also purchase another Boeing 737-700 NG this May 2013 and new planes to replace the ones that make flights to Bujumbura, Entebe, Uganda and Kamembe.
According to Mirenge, RwandAir has much bigger plans to expand in africa and it will open new destinations to Accra, Ghana and Douala in Cameroon in the coming months, which will enable the national carrier to make its fourteenth and fifteenth destinations respectively.
