A team of medical practitioners from University of Rwanda Teaching Hospital (CHUB), recently offered 17 cows to Gishamvu and Karama sector survivors of the 1994 genocide against Tutsis. 10 cows were given to survivors of Gishamvu sector whereas the other 7 given to survivors of Karama sector.

Speaking to the survivors, Dr Musemakweri Andre said that the cause for their offering is non-other than expression of love.
“We here not to because we have offered cows, instead we are here to portray the kind of love that Rwandans used to have and still should have.”
“Rwandans have always been known for their love; therefore you too should live to follow that culture. A neighbor’s child should never lack milk to drink when your cow is being milked.” Explained Musemakweri
Appreciating the initiative, Huye district officials’ statement praised CHUB’s initiative pledging support of their activities in the following years.
The statement also requested CHUB to assist Gishamvu sector residents in fighting malnutrition among children since the sector still had a few existing cases.
Beneficiaries of CHUB cows
Those who were given cows happily promised to culturally thank CHUB by a special visit to CHUB known as “Gukura Ubwatsi”.
Gishamvu sector has over this genocide mourning period freely received a number of cows to support the survivors. Apart from CHUB’s 10 cows, Huye district had earlier offered 8 cows and FARG had also offered 12 cows to the Gishamvu survivors.
