Goethe Institute to screen Comrade Goldberg

The moving and touching story of Denis Goldberg, a South African social campaigner, would move even the most stonehearted sadist to tears. Denis was an active South African in the struggle against apartheid and was imprisoned along with key members of the anti-apartheid movement. Comrade Goldberg, a 2010 documentary film recreates the life of this brave only-white member of Umkhonto we Sizwe or spear of the nation.

The film follows the biography of Nelson Mandela’s white companion, the forgotten hero of the Anti Apartheid struggle and shows his actual life in South Africa especially during the last elections and the victory of new ANC president Jacob Zuma.

As a curtain raiser, the institute shall screen the A World without Sound, dealing sensitively with the lives of deaf people in Rwanda. By the use of sign language the documentary opens up the window of reality into the lives and challenges of the deaf community. The two screenings will take place at the institute’s new location in Kiyovu on Tuesday 24^th September 2013 from 6.30pm. As usual entrance will be free.
