A delegation of five high ranking officers from Uganda Police Force is in the country to learn from the various Rwanda National Police welfare schemes.
The delegation which is on a four day tour is set to visit Police Training School (PTS) in Gishari, Ruhango and Muhanga Police stations purposely to witness several welfare programs and to see how Police officers execute their activities.
Speaking to press, the Ugandan head of the delegation, Rogers Muhirwa who also happens to be the Under Secretary of Police said that, the purpose of the visit was to learn from Rwanda National Police welfare schemes and see how they can implement them back home to improve the welfare of their officers.
“It is impressive to see how Rwanda National Police provides meals to Police officers,” Muhirwa said. “We had our lunch from the senior officer’s mess and observed how happily Police officers are while having meals in the same place.”
He lauded the use health insurance by Rwanda National Police officers and the housing scheme.
He observed that such cooperation should continue in order to better maintain law and order in both Rwanda and Uganda and in the region.
The Director of welfare at Rwanda National Police Supt. Theophile Kamali, commended the good cooperation between the two Police forces.
He observed that such cooperation facilitates sharing best practices. “There is much Uganda Police Force can learn from our experience much as we can learn from theirs,” he said.
“We have the Zigama Credit Saving Scheme which is working quite well. If they can start and implement a similar project, it would be useful to their personnel,” he said.
