Gisagara district administration has urged youth to form cooperatives and start income generating projects in order to access financial support and develop their district and the country in general.
This comes after statistics showed that youth make 66percent of residents in Gisagara district.
Some of the 66 percent youth went to school, others dropped out due to different reasons while others never stepped in school.
Etienne Ntahobavukira, a resident of Kibirizi sector in Gisagara district asserts that some youth have understood the importance of forming cooperatives and have joined them.
Rukundo Noël, coordinator of national youth council in Gisagara district encourages youth who claim to be poor to join others since they can contribute good ideas and manpower.
Rukundo says: “It’s possible for one to have no money but powerful ideas and energy. We urge such youth to join cooperatives and be part of development when the district supports the cooperative.”
Léandre Karekezi, mayor of Gisagara district adds that it’s easier for the district to support youth development projects when they are in cooperatives.
During the youth month (May 2013), Gisagara youth plans to carry out different activities such as helping poor youth and to execute the remaining activities pledged in their performance contracts.
