Rwanda : Rwanda Sitting Volleyball is having a successful stint in Europe

The national sitting volleyball team which will compete at this year’s summer Olympic games is having a successful training camp in Europe.

According to National Paralympic Committee (NPC), the aim of the training camp is to help the team gain exposure ahead of the Olympics.

12 players and 3 officials met Peter Karreman the Head Coach of Rwanda Sitting Volleyball Team in Netherlands.

After their training camp in Europe, the team will return back to Kigali on May 18 and continue the training camp for more two months before heading to United Kingdom for a two-week training in Burry St. Edmunds supported by London 2012 Organising Committee of Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This Pre-Games training will start on 12th August, 2012 end on 24th August, 2012, then the delegation go to the Paralympic Village up to 10th September, 2012.

Rwanda has since won one friendly match against Apollo team 4:1; played against a Leverkusen team and drew 6:6; they also played against Volleer, ranked number 3 in Nethrlands and lost 5-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18, 15-13).

Other matches on card include; Zevenar, Voorthuizen and Dieren.

This will be the first time a sub-saharan team qualify to the Paralympic Games, where they will face experienced teams like Bosnia Herzegovina, Iran, Bresil and others.

Only 10 teams will be in London and the local Paralympic committee is trying its best to fully represent Rwanda and defend the level of sitting volleyball in East Africa and Sub-Saharan countries.
