TVET industrial Attachment is essential for hands-on skills
The Workforce Development Authority (WDA) in conjunction with Tumba College of Technology (TCT) is conducting a follow-up survey on the implementation of a better and harmonized Industrial Attachment Program (IAP) in Technical Vocational Educationa and Training (TVET).
The follow-up survey aims at collecting information on the current situation of IAP, understanding the obstacles and good practices, examining the effectiveness of the IAP guideline as well as the IAP workshop conducted last year.
This exercise started Wednesday May 29 and will end on June 6, 2013 in 18 selected schools.
The schools are; Umushumbamwiza VTC, Akilah Institute for women, Gatenga VTC, Gacuriro VTC, Nelson Mandela Education Center (VTC), New hope institute (VTC), IPRC Kigali, Kabarondo VTC.
Others include Amizero VTC, Kirehe VTC, Kibali VTC, IPRC South (Kavumu cumpus), Mpanda VTC, Nyanza VTC, TCT, Gisenyi VTC, Sabana VTC and Tyazo VTC.
Two sessions of IAP workshops were held by WDA and JICA in Musanze and in Kigali city last year during which the IAP guideline and some tools (log books) were introduced and distributed to participants to help in IAP implementation.
A well implemented industrial attachment is meant to allow TVET students acquire appropriate knowledge and skills through real practical experience.
To make this action effective, a questionnaire was designed to permit comparison on IAP implementation before and after the industrial liaison officers attended the IAP workshop.
Tumba College is supported by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supports in three pillars which are the establishment of course management cycle including equipment provision, Human resource development and strengthening industrial relations.
