The RDF peacekeepers in United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) together with the Rwandan Community in the Republic of South Sudan were on 7th April joined by their Sudanese friends and United Nations officials to mark the 19th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The ceremony that took place in the barracks of Rwandan Contingent in Juba started with the” walk to remember” in Juba town, a march organised to pay tribute to the over a million people who perished in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The commemoration conducted under the theme of this year “Commemorating the Genocide against the Tutsi as we strive for Self-Reliance” was marked by testimonies and speeches by different personalities as well as candlelight vigil by Rwandan Community, South Sudanese Officials as well as by Hilde JOHNSON, Special Representative of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Head of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan.
