Gakenke: Youth should learn from the past to prepare for the future

The youth need to learn about the Rwandan history especially the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis and fight to build a better Rwanda that will never see genocide again, the Minister for Natural resources in Rwanda Evode Imena has said.

The minister explained how the 1994 genocide was caused by poor leadership that encouraged hatred and division among Rwandans during the commemoration programs in Gakenke district on Monday the 8^th.April.2013.

Imena went on to say that if youth can build on unity and love and work for the development of the country, Rwanda will be a good country for people to stay in and respected internationally.

Aime Bosenibamwe The governor of the Northern Province of Rwanda recommended and appreciated genocide survivors who managed to forgive people who perpetrated genocide against them.

He also asked genocide perpetrators to ask for forgiveness and to reveal the whereabouts of the genocide victims that have not been laid to rest peacefully.

“In this period when Rwanda is commemorating for the 19^th time the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis, people are supposed to support genocide survivors in any possible way” argued the governor.

Different leaders, genocide survivors as well as local people made a journey to remember and laid wreath of flowers to general graves that hold about 900 bodies of the victims of the 1994 genocide against Tutsis.

The bodies of the victims of the 1994 genocide against Tutsis that are not yet laid to rest respectfully will be laid in Buranga memorial site in Kivuruga sector in this period of 100 of commemoration.
