RWANDA IMPROVES IN FIFA WORLD RANKINGS

m_Rwanda improves in Fifa world rankings


 DESPITE not playing any competitive matches this month, Rwanda improved two places to 129th in the latest World rankings released by Fifa on Thursday.


Rwanda’s request for a friendly match against Uganda Cranes was never honoured as Uganda football house, Fufa lacked financial means to host Amavubi in Kampala.


Amavubi’s last competitive match was against Benin away in Porto Novo were the country lost 2-0 to finish bottom of Group H with two points in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.


Improving to 129th in the world, Rwanda also moved one place to 37th position in Africa.


Neighbors Uganda have dropped four places to 85th after their double loss to Pharaohs of Egypt in Fifa international matches played at Air force stadium in Cairo late last month. Uganda remains the best placed East African country.


Despite losing 2-1 to Nigeria in the first leg of the World Cup play-offs last week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia dropped two places to 95th position in the world and 25th in Africa.


The Harambee Stars of Kenya remained on 118th in the world and 32nd in Africa. Burundi moved three places to 121 while Tanzania dropped two positions to 129th, seven places better than Sudan.


Ivory Coast has remained the best placed African country, improving two places to 17th while while Ghana is the second best placed, remain ranked on 23th, Algeria completes the top three African countries despite dropping four places to 32nd.


In the top ten, only Spain’s position at the summit remains unchanged, while Germany have pushed Argentina out of second place.


New entries into the top ten include; Switzerland (7th, up 7) and England (10th, up 7), both thanks to their recent strong performances in the final group games in the World Cup qualifying.


Italy, meanwhile, have paid heavily for their draw against Armenia, dropping four places to eighth.


This latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking has also determined which teams will be seeded for the European play-off draw for Brazil 2014, which will take place in Zurich on October 21.


The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published after completion of World Cup qualifying on November 28.
