Meddie Kagere scored his first goal of the season since being signed from rivals Police Fc to send defending champions Rayon Sports on top of the 2013/14 Turbo King Football League standings where they are tied on goal difference against Espoir Fc.

Rayon Sports jumped from seventh spot to topple the standings after a slim 1-0 win over AS Muhanga yesterday at Stade de Kigali.

Kagere scored the lone goal of the game in three appereances for the blues on 28th minute as the blues dominated the game. It was a goal of beauty scored with a hind touch off Karim Nizigiyimana’s corner after a series of missed chances and saves from Muhanga goalie Hassan Jumaine.

The blues, who are enjoying a good form under Coach Didier Gomes da Rosa, were ready to let off their loose cannon from the kick off whistle. Kagere had the first decent chance but he missed the target by inches.

In the 15th minute, Papy Kamanzi failed to connect Nizigiyimana’s cross as his header never caused the intended threat.

The next move was AS Muhanga’s effort at goal. A nice free kick by Nasser Irakoze went straight to keeper Jean Luc Ndayishimiye’s gloves.

In the 28th minute, Kagere’s right foot shot was cleared by goalie Jumaine above the bar. In the resulting corner, Kagere made no mistake as he punished Jumaini with a hind strike off Nizigiyimana’s corner beating the keeper to score his first goal of the season.

After the break, solid goal keeping by Jumaini prevented Cedric Amissi from grabbing extending the goal spree after the Burundian import made a mince meal of the defenders.

Amissi hit the cross bar in the 60th minute as Rayon Sports took control of the proceeding for a good spell.

In the 68th substitute Djamal Mwiseneza fluffed off Nizigiyimana’s cross. With five minutes to the end, striker Claude Saidi Mumbare was sent off for a reckless foul on Moses Kanamugire.

The win took Rayon Sports on top of the standings with 7 points but with a less number of goals (1) conceded since both sides is tied on goal difference (2).

The defeat for coach Ali Bizimungu leaves his club struggling on 13th position with one points out of a possible nine in three matches played this season.

Police Stunned

At Kicukiro turf, Musanze stunned Police to a 1-0 win courtesy of Congolese Wayi Eka. In three matches, Police has dropped to seventh position with four points while Musanze shares top spot with Rayon Sports each tied on goal difference, goals scored and goals conceded.

In other matches played on Saturday, AS Kigali ended APR’s perfect start to the 2013/13 Turbo King Football League season with a 1-0 win.

Striker Amini Mwizerwa scored the lone goal for Andrew Gasambungo team in the 53rd minutes after poor defending by center back Ismail Nshutinamagara ‘Kodo’.

Mukura Victory Sport continued with their poor run after they lost to visitors Etincelles 1-0 at Stade Kamena. SC Kiyovu Sports drew for the third time a row after the 1-1 stalemate against Gicumbi at Mumena stadium, while Espoir beat Marines 2-1 in Rubavu and Amagaju lost against newcomers Esperance 2-1.

The Turbo King Football league continues on Tuesday and Wednesday.
