With less than a week to go before the curtains come down in the country’s first ever Gospel music awards, renowned gospel singer Dominic Nic has thrown a jibe at the organizers for their lack of commitment towards the interests of gospel artists. Nic is among the best and respected gospel musicians in the country but the soft spoken man is not among those attending the gala night on October 13th.

According to Dominic, interests of gospel musicians have not been catered for as Groove Awards look to only make a name for themselves, a factor he says led to him pulling out. The celebrated musician said, “I won’t be attending the awards because I don’t believe they genuinely cater for the needs of gospel musicians. They only care about themselves and that’s all. They just want to make a name for themselves.”

This is the first time that Groove Awards will be staged on Rwandan soil. Prior to that, Rwandan gospel artists used to travel to Nairobi where they were held annually. Gaby Kamanzi, a female gospel musician is among local gospel artists who have scooped an accolade at the awards, and she will be looking forward to repeat the feat as she is among the nominees in Best Female category.
