AMAVUBI TURN FOCUS ON 2015 AFCON QUALIFIERS

RWANDA’S national soccer team, Amavubi, Tuesday returned home heads down from Porto Novo, Benin where they lost 2-0 in their final 2014 World Cup Group C qualifying match.

Assistant coach Jean Baptista Kayiranga talking to media on Wednesday singled out inexperience as the major factor behind Amavubi team’s failure to end their campaign on a high on Sunday evening.

He said that the technical team’s focus is now on the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“When we were given the mandate to manage Amavubi a few months back, we were entitled to look out for young local Rwandan players and give them exposure such that they can play as many matches as possible,”

“No one is happy with the way the World cup campaign has ended but we believe we were able to see different young players expose their talents,”

“Sometimes I think it’s very good to lose games, because when you’re trying to build a team and trying to make progress and you will want to use players as development, and this is whatw e are doing, testing who is ready and who is not,”

“This has helped us to see who is ready and not to don Amavubi jersey,”

“Focus should now be turned to 2015 Afcon and devise new ways of how we can have a strong national team which can prepare as early as possible and be to register positive results in the qualification round,”

“This team should be maintained and exposed to many competitions as we seek to build a better and winning national team in future,” added Kayiranga.

Rwanda put up a spirited fight despite succumbing to two goals that had the West Africans snatch Group H’s third spot leaving Rwanda routed bottom of the group.
